2017 Year in Review!

2017 Year in Review

What an amazing year it turned out to be. Here is a quick 2017 year in review blog recap of what I’ve been up to lately.

The end of the year was a whirlwind for me and I’m just starting to feel caught up nearing the end of January. In November I filmed two back to back weddings at the same venue! Normally I might consider turning one of the down as I’ve limited the amount of weddings I accept to just a few a month but it was at one of my all time favorite places to film, Malibu Rocky Oaks. Even better, both couples we’re so excited to work with me and we’re so completely opposite each other in style and personality. Even the weather was crazy different from the first day to the next.

Here is the wedding film from the first day of Sabina and Carson’s wedding. It was crazy windy and cold which brought out the most beautiful colors in the sky. I was in love with Sabina’s style and dark, bold, romantic choices she made for the decor. Carson was about the nicest person I think I’ve ever met and was the first of four Major League Baseball players weddings that I’m filming in the next year!

Tracy and Andrew’s wedding (day 2) at Malibu Rocky Oaks will be featured in my next blog as I’m putting the finishing touches on their edit. After that I headed out to Florida with the family for vacation. We spent a week in Florida visiting family and then we took the kids on a week long Disney Cruise. Along the way we visited Cozumel, the Grand Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Disney’s own private island Castaway Cay. The kids loved it! I’ve seen enough Mickey ears for a lifetime lol. But, we signed up for another trip for next year so it’s looking like Alaska or a European trip is around the corner.

Three days back from our trip we hopped on another plane. This time for Los Cabos to film Justin Turner’s (go Dodgers!) wedding at the One & Only Palmilla. The wedding was so much fun. Kourtney and Justin were dream clients to work with and we had a great time working with Mindy Weiss and the Grovers. The best part for me as a life long Dodger fan was meeting Orel Hershiser who officiated the wedding.

After wrapping up the Christmas holidays we were right back at it with a wedding the first weekend of January. This was our second Dodger wedding this time for Joc Pederson and his lovely bride Kelsey. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as none other than John Legend himself sang and played piano as the bride walked down the aisle. It’s funny when you’ve heard a song on the radio a thousand times and then you get to experience the artist perform it up close and stripped down. It really blew me away and reminded me just how talented someone can be.

It was great catching up with our wedding planner friends from Toast Santa Barbara and working alongside Jose Villa and his husband Joel Serrato. I can’t wait to edit this wedding film!

2017 was really an amazing year. I organized an entire wedding for a military couple for free! Photographed a couple of weddings. Had the opportunity to travel and meet a lot of new friends and colleagues. And 2018 is already shaping up to be even better. In addition to some local weddings in the Los Angeles and Santa Barbara areas I will be traveling to Big Sur, Joshua Tree, Montana, Santa Ynez, San Fransisco, Napa, San Antonio, Ireland and Peurto Rico with hopefully a few more dates to be added.

I could probably make this 2017 year in review post 10 pages long but for now I’m off to edit hours of wedding footage! Do you have any amazing trips planned for 2018? If so leave me a comment below.

On a day excursion to film the famous Cabo arch. Making the location a character in the film can add a whole other dimension to the wedding film.
